Background
The 127th Infantry Regiment (127th IR) was a National Guard unit in the 32nd Infantry Division (32nd ID) "Red Arrow Division" in the U.S. Army. Nicknamed First Wisconsin with the motto "Les Terribles", French meaning the terribles from their service in France during World War I.

Wartime History
During late November 1942 participated in the Battle of Buna.

On December 24, 1942 during the Battle of Buna a group of soldiers tasked with driving to the north coast when Sgt Kenneth E. Gruennert earned the Medal of Honor, posthumouly.

On July 22, 1944 in the vicinity of the Driniumor River near Afua while his company was attempting to withdraw, Private Donald R. Lobaugh earned the Medal of Honor, posthumously.

On March 15, 1945 the 127th Inf continues hard fighting on Villa Verde Trail.

On March 22, 1945 relieved by the 128th Infany Regiment.
