On March 13, 1943 the Headquarters Squadron (HQ) of the 54th Troop Carrier Wing (54th TCW) in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) was activated in Brisbane to control all 5th Air Force (5th AF) troop carrier units.

On April 18, 1944 moves to Nadzab Airfield in New Guinea.

On October 5, 1944 moves to Biak.

On February 14, 1945 moves to Leyte in the Philippines.

On June 1, 1945 moves to Clark Field on Luzon in the Philippines.
