Background
On March 13, 1943 the Headquarters Squadron (HQ) of the 54th Troop Carrier Wing (54th TCW) in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) was activated in Brisbane to control all 5th Air Force (5th AF) troop carrier units. The 54th Troop Carrier Wing (54th TCW) included 375th Troop Carrier Group (375th TCG), 317th Troop Carrier Group (317th TCG) and 433rd Troop Carrier Group (433rd TCG).
