Aircraft History
Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Delivered to the U. S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24J-195-CO Liberator serial number 44-41081. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field to the South Pacific.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 13th Air Force, 868th Bombardment Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. When lost, engines and weapon serial numbers not noted in Missing Air Crew Report 16230.

Mission History
On April 21, 1945 took off from Leyte (APO 719) on mission #868-616, an armed shipping and photographic reconnaissance mission against the Makassar Strait off Sulawesi (Celebes). Over the target, this B-24 was rammed by a Japanese fighters over Mandai Airfield near Makassar and crashed into the sea.

The entire crew was officially declared dead on February 21, 1946. All are listed on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery. Eldredge also has a memorial marker at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, CA. Lever also has a memorial marker at Hillside Cemetery in Andover, NY.
