Aircraft History Built by Martin in Baltimore, Maryland. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-26 Marauder serial number 40-1499. Disassembled and shipped overseas across the Pacific Ocean to Australia. During July 1942 unloaded at Brisbane and reassembed at Amberley Field. Wartime History During July 1942 or August 1942 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG), Headquarters Squadron (HQ). Nicknamed "Wabash Cannonball II" below was Japanese kanji. The nose had a a scoreboard of bomb markings indicating mission flown in a long row with the nose art of a Walt Disney dwarf character from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). This bomber was named after B-26 "Wabash Cannonball" 40-1499 was damaged August 17, 1942 and written off. Assigned to pilot 1st Lt. Leon G. Lewis with crew chiefs Schmigel. During September 1942, transfered to the 33rd Bombardment Squadron (33rd BS) and retained the same nickname. Assigned to pilots Lewis and Thrower with crew chief Brown. This B-26 flew at least 11 bombing missions with the squadron, including one mission on loan to the 19th Bombardment Squadron (19th BS). During June 1943, transfered to the 19th Bombardment Squadron (19th BS). Assigned to pilot Steddom with crew chief Garver. On July 21, 1943 flew its first combat mission with the squadron. In total, this bomber flew 25 combat missions with the squadron. Fate During January 1944 flown to Brisbane and scrapped.
