Aircraft History Built by Goodyear Aircraft Corporation in Akron, Ohio as model V-166B. In January 1944, delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as FG-1A Corsair bureau number 13459. In 1952, this Corsair was stricken off charge. Postwar In 1952 put on display at Goodyear World Of Rubber in Akron, OH suspended from a crane inside plant B. Painted in USN markings with code F-9. In the middle 1970s, placed into storage. Restoration In 1975, donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Museum (USMC Museum). During February 1975 transported to Mojave, CA for static restoration. During 1979-1981 further restoration was done at Chino Airport. Afterwards, transported to El Toro, CA then shipped by barge to Quantico, VA for the final stages of restoration. Display This Corsair was displayed at USMC Museum in the markings of U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) FG-1A Corsair 13486 with fuselage code 86. In 2006, installed rededicated National Museum of the Marine Corps in the Leatherneck Gallery suspended from the ceiling armed with four rockets under each wing.
