Aircraft History
Built by Goodyear Aircraft Corporation in Akron, Ohio as model V-166B. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as FG-1D Corsair bureau number 88062.

Wartime History
Assigned to Carrier Air Group 100 (CAG-1), Bombing Fighting Squadron 1 (VBF-1) aboard USS Bennington (CV-20). No known nickname, nose art or markings.

Mission History
On July 24 1945 at 7:45am took off from USS Bennington (CV-20) piloted by Lt. Rodney C. Tabler as one of twelve fighter-bombers on a strike "Charlie 3" over Kure. The weather was overcast with average flying conditions. Over the Inland Sea, last seen entering a clouds with a Ki-84 Frank on the tail. When this plane failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).

Memorials
Tabler earned the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), Air Medal with three Gold Stars and Purple Heart, posthumously. He is memorialized at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) on the courts of the missing, court 2.
