Aircraft History Built by Nakajima completed by early February 1943. Uncoded serial number 110. Delivered to the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as Army Type 100 Heavy Bomber Donryu / Ki-49-II (Helen) manufacture number 3110. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Hiko Sentai (Flying Regiment) in New Guinea. No known tail code or markings. Mission History This Helen was shot down and crashed into a coconut plantation in the Bai area. During the crash, this bomber broke into several pieces including the center section and tail. Wreckage This Hellen remains in situ in the Bai area. Locals recall a the crash of this bomber, as part of a dogfight, where two Japanese and one American aircraft were lost. The other two planes crashed into the sea, the American pilot survived, swam to shore but was shot and buired by the Japanese. During 1974, Charles Darby noted manufacture number 3110.
