Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank as LT9-18 model 18-40 Lodestar. Constructors Number 2122. Purchased by the Militaire Luchtvaart (ML-KNIL) Army Aviation Corps of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (NEIAF) as Lodestar serial number LT9-18. At the factory painted with Netherlands triangle insignia and photographed before being disassembled and shipped as cargo to the Netherlands East Indies (NEI) and reassembled. Wartime History During early 1942, this Lodestar was evacuated from Java and flown southward to Broome Airfield. On March 3, 1942 while parked at Broome Airfield strafed by A6M2 Zeros from the 3rd Kōkūtai (3rd Air Group) and destroyed by fire. Wreckage After the air raid, the burned out wreckage of this Lodestar was photographed. Fire destroyed the fuselage with only the outer wings and tail section remaining. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. References Some sources list the Dutch serial number as LT918 or LT-918, these were later serial number formats.
