Aircraft History
Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 222-???? (four digits unknown). Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38 Lightning model and serial number unknown. Likely P-38F serial number 42-????? (last five digits unknown) or P-38G serial number 43-???? (four digits unknown). Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), this plane was likely assigned to the 35th Fighter Group (35th FG), 39th Fighter Squadron (39th FS). No known nickname or nose art. Squadron number unknown.

During 1943, assigned to the 8th Fighter Group (8th FG), 80th Fighter Squadron (80th FS) "Headhunters" at 3 Mile Drome (Kila Kila) near Port Moresby. Assigned to pilot Lt. Cornelius "Corky" M. Smith. Nicknamed "Dottie From Brooklyn" in capital letters with a black outline on the left side of the nose, in honor of his wife Dorothy "Dottie" Harman Smith.

Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappared.
