Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank. Constructor Number 237-6340. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as PV-1 Ventura bureau number 49524. Disassembled and shipped to Oahu then across the Pacific to New Zealand as part of defense aid. Wartime History On May 24, 1944 assigned to the to the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as Ventura NZ4632 and reassembled by Unit 45 at Hamilton Airfield. During early 1945, assigned to No. 2 Squadron and operated from Nissan Airfield (Green Island) flying combat missions. Mission History On July 14, 1945 during take off from Jacquinot Bay Airfield swung around and ground looped and was severely damaged. Wreckage Afterwards, assigned to 10 Repair Salvage Unit (10 RSU) stripped for usable parts then abandoned at Jacquinot Bay Airfield in the boneyard area. This Ventura remains in situ.
