Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as PV-1 Ventura bureau number unknown. Wartime History Assigned to Patrol Bombing Squadron 150 (VPB-150). Tail number 421. No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On October 23, 1944 while parked on the flight line on Tinian a group of Japanese stragglers managed to reach this Ventura and attempted to start the engines. Spotted by U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) guards who moved towards the aircraft and opened fire on them. Unable to start the plane and desperate, the stragglers detonated grenades, killing themselves and setting the plane on fire.
