Location Lat 26° 4′ 44.40″ N Long 96° 43′ 24.92″E Tingkawk Sakan Airfield was located in northern Burma. Construction Built as a temporary airfield with a 4,000' runway surfaced with gravel cut from a 200' tall teak forest. Wartime History Used by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as a forward airfield. In the middle of May 144 based the 311th Fighter Group (311th F-B-G) operating P-51C Mustangs. During August 1944, the 8th Reconnaissance Group, based at Barrackpore Airfield in India, sent a detachment of the 20th Reconnaissance Squadron to fly reconnaissance missions from the field with F-5s (P-38 Lightning). The detachment moved out in November. The 311th was replaced in August by the 80th Fighter Group, flying P-47 Thunderbolts until January 1945 when the airfield was closed.
