Location Galela Airfield was located at Galela on the northern arm of Halmahera Island (Pulau Halmahera) in the Molucca Island Group (Molucca Islands). Also spelled Galeia Airfield. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in North Maluku Province (Provinsi Maluku Utara) in Indonesia. Construction Built by the Japanese as a single runway surfaced with crushed coral. Afterwards, they built Wasile Airfield. Wartime History Used by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as a military airfield. During 1944, used by the 60th Hiko Sentai, 33rd Hiko Sentai and 77th Hiko Sentai. Starting in late July 1944 bombed by Allied aircraft until early January 1945. American missions against Galela Airfield July 27, 1944–January 10, 1945 Today Disused since the war as an airfield.
