THURSDAY, 27 JULY 1944
BURMA-INDIA (Tenth Air Force): In Burma, 40+ fighter-bombers hit Taungni, Myitkyina,
the Kamaing-Mogaung area, and a bridge at Sahmaw.
CHINA (Fourteenth Air Force): In China, 17 P-40s hit river and lake shipping
S of Yogang and in the Siangtan area, strafe truck columns S of Changsha, and
bomb and strafe troops, horses, and compounds in the Nanyo area.
PACIFIC OCEAN AREA (POA, Seventh Air Force): P-47s and B-25s from Saipan hit Tinian. B-24s from the Marshalls bomb Truk. B-25s based
at Makin hit Jaluit.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AREA [SWPA, Far East Air Force (FEAF)]: B-24s hit the Woleai Airfield and supply areas on Mariaon and Tagaulap. In the Moluccas Islands, B-24s bomb the airfield at Lolobata and Miti while B-25s hit Galela Airfield. B-24s bomb Laha, Namlea and Cape Chater and Dili. B-24s and B-25s bomb shipping and Ransiki Airfield, Moemi Airfield,
and Babo Airfield, hit a freighter in Kaiboes Bay, and bomb AA positions at Kokas. Lost is B-25H 43-4422 (survived). Other A-20s blast fuel dumps at Nabire; P-39s strafe concentrations and small vessels
along the west coast of Geelvink Bay; A-20s, B-25s, and fighter-bombers hit troop
concentrations, supply dumps, gun positions, barges, and a variety of other
targets along the coast from Aitape to Wewak to Cape Moem.
USN: "Operation Snapshot" carrier aircraft attack targets in Palau. Four VT-51 Avengers bomb warehouses, storage buildings on Malakal Island. Lost is TBM Avenger 45810 (MIA).
Consairways: Crash is C-87 Liberator Express 41-11706 on Florida Island.
