Location Lat 7°19′57″N Long 134°27′11″E Malakal Island is located in Koror State the center of Palau (Belau). Also known as Ngemelachel. Borders Koror Island (Oreor) to the west and Arakabesan Island (Ngerekebesang) to the north and Urukthapel Island to the southwest. To the south is Malakal Pass, Malakal Harbor and Palau Harbor. Prewar Occupied by the Japanese. At the northern tip of the island was a causeway bridge that connected to Koror Island. Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese. During 1944, anti-aircraft guns were emplaced at the southern coast. American missions against Malakal August 25 - November 13, 1944 Today Malakal Island is the site of a shipping port and radio station T8AA-AM. Contribute
