Location Arakabesan Island is located in Koror State in the center of Palau (Belau). Also known as Ngerekebesang. Borders Koror Island to the southeast and Malakal Island (Ngemelachel) to the south. At the eastern tip, connected by a causeway Koror Island. Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese. The Japanese built a causeway to connect Arakabesan Island to Koror Island. During the 1930s and into the Pacific War, Arakabesan was developed by the Japanese Navy into two seaplane bases. During 1944-1945 attacked by American aircraft to neutralize the island. American missions against Arakabesan August 28, 1944–April 19, 1945 Arakabesan Seaplane Base (Southwest Seaplane Base) Built prewar used by the Japanese Navy today Palau Pacific Resort Arakabesan Seaplane Base (Northeast Seaplane Base) Located at on the northeast corner of Arakabesan Island.
