Location Miyara Airfield is located near Miyara on southeast Ishigaki Jima in the in the Yaeyama Islands (Yaeyama Island Group) in the Sakishima Islands in Okinawa Prefecture of Japan. Construction Built by the Japanese as a military airfield with the single runway parallel to the southeast coast. Wartime History Used by the Japanese until the end of the Pacific War. Starting in April 1945 until the end of the Pacific War targeted by Allied carrier planes including fighters and bombers. American missions against Miyara Airfield April 4, 1945–June 29, 1945 TBM-3 Avenger Bureau Number 23471 Pilot Buettner (POW) rashed April 14, 1945, 2 killed in crash Today Disused since the Pacific War.
