Location Lat 24° 20' 41N Long 124° 9' 26E Ishigaki 石垣市 is located at an elevation of 16' / 4m above sea level on the southwest coast of Ishigaki Jima in the Yaeyama Islands (Yaeyama Island Group) in the Sakishima Islands in the Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. Today known as Ishigaki City (Ishigaki Shi). Wartime History During World War II, there were three finger piers on the southern edge of the Ishigaki City. Starting in early May 1945 attacked by Allied fighters. Many residents of Ishigaki were relocated to Iriomote Island to take refuge from Allied aerial attacks or from a possible amphibious invasion.
