    Somon Airfield (Obo Somon, Bayan Ovod) Dornod Mongolia

Location
Lat 47 47' Long 112 07' located at Obo Somon. Located rougly 140km east of Öndörhaan (Undur Khan) and about 165km west of Choybalsan (Sanbeisu, Bayantümen, Bain-Tumen, Bayan Tumen). Also known as "Obo Somon", "Bayan Obo Somon", "Bayan Ovod" or "Bayan-ovoo".

Construction
Built during the summer of 1939 as a field aerodrome and used by aircraft during the during the Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident May - September 1939.

Units Based at Tamsagbulak
4th Heavy Bomber Air Regiment (TB-3) from Domna circa July - September 1939

Afterwards, expanded and used during and after World War II by the VSS.

Dr. Voaden adds:
" I have a note --incomplete -- from a list of VVS unit dispositions, showing bombers (type not known) at or planned to be at Obo-Samon during Spring/Autum 1941. The war may well have changed these plans."

Today
Postwar was listed as a 3,300' runway. Disused since 1989 or earlier.
