Location Old Nubia Airfield was located at Potsdam bordering Hansa Bay on the north coast of New Guinea. Also known as "Old Nubia Landing Ground" or "Old Nubia LG". To the northwest is the Sakula River and beyond Nubia and Nubia Airfield (Hansa South). To the south is Kalagima Creek. Today located in Yawar Rural LLG, Bogia District, Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar During the German colonial era, Potsdam Plantation was established at this location planted with coconut palms harvesting copra. Construction Prewar, the Catholic church built a small airfield known as Nubia Airfield. The single runway was roughly 1,200' in length and surfaced with grass. By the start of the Pacific War, the runway was disused. Wartime History During January 1943, the area was occupied by the Japanese Army. During the Japanese occupation, they never used Old Nubia Airfield and instead built Nubia Airfield (Hansa South) and this disused airfield became known as as "Old Nubia Airfield" and remained listed on some Allied maps. In the middle of June 1944, the Australian Army occupied the area and never utilized Old Nubia Airfield. Today Since the prewar era, disused as an airfield and overgrown. Contribute
