Location
Lat 5° 34' 41S Long 146° 20' 20E  Yamai Airfield is located at an elevation of 50' above sea level on the north coast of New Guinea. Also known as Yamai, Saidor #2, Saidor No. 2, Tarlitce. To the northwest is Biliau (Beliau). Roughly 8 miles to the southeast is Saidor and Saidor Airfield. Today, known as Biliau Airfield or Biliau Airport.

Construction
During early 1944, a small runway was built by the U.S. Army for liason planes and as an emergency airfield. The single runway was just inland from the coast and the runway was surfaced with dirt.

Wartime History
Used as a cub strip for liaison planes and as an emergency airfield. On April 16, 1944 "Black Sunday" many aircraft force landed at this location due to bad weather low on fuel.

Today
Postwar, used as a landing ground. Airport code: IATA: BIJ. Today, the former runway is disused and overgrown.

Aircraft salvaged from Yamai
During 1985, the RAAF recovered three A-20G Havocs from the airfield, and transported them to Australia.
