On May 21, 1937 pilot Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan took off from Oakland Airfield aboard Lockheed Model 10E Electra 1055 Registration NR16020 on their second attempt to circumnavigate the world and flew southward to Burbank Airfield then eastward across the United States.

Today
Still in use today as Oakland International Airport. Also known as Oakland Municipal Airport or Metropolitan Oakland Airport. The airport has four runways. Airport codes: FAA: OAK ICAO: KOAK IATA: OAK.
