USN: PBY Catalinas from Patrol Wing 4 (Pat Wing 4) discovered Japanese forces on Kiska and Attu, confirming news of Japanese landings took place on June 6, 1942 and June 7, 1942.
ALASKA (11th Air Force): A local patrol is flown at Umnak.
Behind enemy lines, 2nd Lt Harold L. Massie pilot B-26 "Imogene VII" 40-1474 to his crew after locating New Guinea Volunteer Rifles (NGVR) Pvt John Leslie Stokie on New Britain.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AREA (SWPA, 5th Air Force): B-17s bomb aircraft and buildings
at Rabaul. HQ 38th Bombardment Group (Medium) moves from Amberley to Eagle Farm. Lost on a training flight is P-40E 41-5557 (KIA).
