MONDAY, 9 AUGUST 1943
ALASKA (Eleventh Air Force): A B-24 flies photo reconnaissance
over Kiska.
CBI: Lost is C-87 42-107259 crashed southeast of Donli.
SOUTH PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Thirteenth Air Force): Ten B-25s, with fighter cover bomb Vila. Shortly thereafter, 22 B-24's strike the same target.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Fifth Air Force): B-17s, twenty-four B-24s from 90th Bombardment Group (90th BG) and B-25s bomb Kela, Salamaua, Lae, Nuk Nuk, Samoa Harbor at the mouth of the Francisco River, a barge near Reiss Point, and bridges on the Bogadjim-Ramu Road. Barges and machine gun positons along Borgen Bay, installations at Unea and targets of opportunity at Alilit in the Moluccas Islands are bombed. Amboina is thoroughly pounded.

"On August 9th... the strike went back to Salamaua. Twenty-four planes from all of the squadrons were each carrying eight 1,000 pound bombs; and the 319th, 320th and 400th Squadrons dropped their bombs on Nuk Nuk with good results. The 312st Squadron dropped on Salamaua."
