U.S. Army![]() Allan H. Kelly 1987 |
Location Battery Ramsay is located near the old YMCA building on Corregidor Island to defend the approaches to Manila from the Manila Bay and the South China Sea. Construction Built by the U.S. Army prewar to emplace a battery of three 6" guns on mounts. Wartime History During 1944, during a U.S. air raid against the island, the magazine at Battery Ramsay was hit by a aerial bomb that resulted in a huge explosion that destroyed the battery and threw one of the gun mounts onto its side. Today Battery Ramsay has an enormous crater from the explosion. One of the 6" gun mounts is laying on its side at the side of the crater rim with the barrel removed. Contribute
