Wartime History Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN), 3rd Kure Special Naval Landing Force (3rd Kure SNLF) and transported to the Solomon Islands. Wartime History During May 1942 emplaced on a pedistal mount atop Hill 281 on Tulagi. On August 7, 1942 U.S. Marines land on unopposed at Blue Beach on the western shore of Tulagi and advance to the southeast but are stopped at a heavily fortified ravine at the forward slope of Hill 281. After the battle, the weapon and magazine was photographed in situ. the machine gun was removed. Until 2002, the mount was still standing and by 2003 the was mount was toppled sideways. Justin Taylan adds: "When I visited In August 2003, the mount was tipped over. I was told vandal kids did it recently. It was the only war relic left on the island."
