Location
Penghu County is part of Southern Taiwan Region of Taiwan. Penghu County includes the Penghu Islands (Pescadores Islands), Pescadores Channel (Penghu Channel) and Taiwan Strait (Formosa Strait). In 1920, administered by Japan as a colony in the Makō Guard District of Formosa until the surrender of Japan in September 1945. Postwar, returned to the original name Penghu and became part of the Republic of China (ROC) and is now part of Penghu County in the Southern Taiwan Region of Taiwan. Today, People's Republic of China (PRC) refers to the area as Taiwan Province, Taiwan Region or the Taiwan Area but has never administered it.
