Location Lat 3° 34' 0S Long 128° 28' 60E Haroekoe Island is located in the Molucca Island Group (Molucca Islands). Also spelled Harakoe Island. To the north is Ceram Island (Seram) and to the west is Ambon Island. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province (Moluccas Islands) in Indonesia. Wartime History During 1942, occupied by the Japanese during their occupation of Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Starting in December 1943 until December 1944 attacked by Allied bombers and fighters. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. American missions against Haroekoe December 7, 1943–December 30, 1944 Haroekoe (Harakoe, Haruku) Haroekoe is located on the west coast of Haroekoe Island. Also known as Harakoe, Haruku, Harakoe, Samet Haroekoe or Kampoeng Haroekoe. Included Haroekoe POW Camp and Tantoei POW Camp.
