Location Lat 3° 6' 0" S Long 130° 30' 0" E Boela is located on the northeastern coast of Seram Island (Ceram). Also known as Boela Town or spelled Bula. Borders Boela Bay (Bula Bay) to the north. Prewar and during the Pacific War, located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province (Moluccas) in Indonesia. Prewar The Dutch developed an oil refinery at Boela and oil fields. The facility included shore based oil wells, storage reservoirs and a series of piers extending into Boela Bay. Wartime History On March 31, 1942 occupied by the Japanese 'N' expeditionary force from Ambon and captured the oil refinery intact. Starting June 1943 attacked by American aircraft until the end of 1944. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.
