Location Lat 3° 6' 36S Long 130° 30' 36E Boela Airfield is located at an elevation of 10' above sea level to the west of Boela (Bula) on the northeastern coast of Ceram Island (Seram) in the Moluccas Islands (Maluku). Also known as "Bula". Prewar and during the Pacific War, located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Maluku Province (Provinsi Maluku) in Indonesia. Construction Built prewar. This airfield had two runways that diverged: Boela No. 1 running northwest to southeast and Boela No. 2 running roughly west to east. Wartime History On March 31, 1942 occupied by the Japanese until the end of the Pacific War with the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. American missions against Boela June 17, 1943–October 25, 1944 P-38J Lightning Serial Number 44-23526 Pilot Frank crashed September 11, 1944 northeast of the runway in the revetment area Today Still in use today as Bula Airport.
