Location
Lat 28°17′N Long 129°22′E  Amami Ōshima 奄美大島 is the largest island in the Amami Islands (Amami-Guntō) in Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. The island is roughly halfway between Okinawa and Kyūshū. Also spelled Amami-Oshima and Amami-O-Shima.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) maintained an oil storage facility on Amami Ōshima. Also, a seaplane base with a ramp. Starting in early May 1945 targeted by U.S. fighter based at Ie Shima and bombers elsewhere until the middle of July 1945.
