Location Lat 34° 40' 60N Long 137° 34' 0E Arai was a town located in the Hamana District, Shizuoka Prefecture on Honshū in Japan. Borders Lake Hamana (Hamana-ko) to the north and the Enshu Sea to the south. On March 23, 2010, Arai merged with Kosai and thus no longer exists as an independent municipality and the Hamana District was dissolved. F4U-4 Corsair Bureau Number 81319 Pilot Boggs crashed July 24, 1945 on the western side of Hamana Bridge near Imagire B-17H Flying Fortress 43-38882 Pilot Motsinger crashed July 25, 1945 Memorial to B-17 Crew Members A stone tablet honoring the crew of B-17H 43-38882 was dedicated in the town.
