Location Alamagan Island is located in the in the Northern Islands Municipality at the northern end of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) in the Mariana Island Group (Mariana Islands) in the United States of America (USA). Located to the south is Guguan Island and to the north is Pagan Island. Prewar Discovered by Spanish explorers, the island was sold to Germany in 1899 and administered as part of German New Guinea. During 1909 until 1912, leased to a Japanese company. During World War I, Alamagan came under the control of Japan and was officially mandated to Japan. Wartime History On August 20, 1944 a single B-24 bombs Alamagan. On August 27, 1944 P-47s strafe buildings on Alamagan. Postwar Administered by the United States as part of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. Today Since 1978, the island has been part of the Northern Islands Municipality of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Contribute
