Location Lat 13° 22' 53N Long 144° 39' 17E Agat is located on the western coast of Guam Island in the Territory of Guam of the Mariana Island Group (Mariana Islands) in the United States of America (USA). Borders Agat Bay to the west and Orote Point and the Orote Peninsula is to the north. Wartime History On July 21, 1944 the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) 1st Provisional Marine Brigade landed near Agat while the 3rd Marine Division landed at Agana Bay west of Agana to the north. The landing came under fire from the Japanese defenses dug in on the high ground overlooking the beaches that knocked out twenty LVTs and inflicted heavy casualties. In the afternoon, the U.S. Army 77th Infantry Division also landed at this location and began advancing northward towards Mount Tenjo and to link up with the 3rd Marine Division to the north.
