Location Lat 16° 23' 11N Long 121° 6' 24E Bambang is located at an elevation of 1,669' / 508m in Nueva Vizcaya Province in the Cagayan Valley region of central-northern Luzon in the Philippines. Connected by Route 5 from the southwest to Aritao. Wartime History After the January 9, 1945 American landing at Lingayen Gulf the Japanese Army was defeated in the open ground of central Luzon, and the 14th Army "Shobu Group" under General Yamashita withdrew into the mountains to fight a delaying action for the remainder of the Pacific War. By late January 1945, Major General Konuma established the Bambang Branch of the 14th Army at Bambang and commanded the defense of the Villa Verde Trail and successfully delayed the American advance for months. By May 1945, Bambang became the southeastern anchor of the "Shobu Group" who planned to hold the area until at least June 1945 to further delay the U.S. Army.
