    Iloilo (Ilo Ilo) Iloilo Province | Panay Island Philippines
Location
Lat 10° 41' 49N Long 122° 33' 52E  Iloilo is located at sea level between the Iloilo River and Batino River which from the angle of a nose on the southeastern corner of Panay Island in Iloilo Province on Panay Island in the Western Visayas (Region VI) in the Visayas (Visayas Islands) in the central Philippines. This location is the root of the province's old name, ilong-ilong which means "noselike". Today known as Iloilo City, the capital of Iloilo Province. Also incorrectly spelled "Ilo Ilo". To the north is Mandurriao (Mandurriaw) and Santa Barbara. To the southeast is Iloilo Strait and Oton Bay and Guimaras Island.

Wartime History
The port at Iloilo was used as a U.S. Navy (USN) base and anchorage. On December 4, 1941, USS Houston (CA-30) arrived then departed December 7, 1941 at 6:30pm before an attack by Japanese bombers attacked. Afterwards, occupied by the Japanese. On April 7, 1942 B-17s from Mindanao fly a econassiance mission over Iloilo.
