Location Guimaras Island is located in Guimaras Province in the Western Visayas (Region VI) in the Visayas (Visayas Islands) in the central Philippines. Surrounded by the Guimaras Strait bordering Panay Island to the north and Negros Island to the east. To the south is Panubulon Island (Panobolon). Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese during 1942. In 1945, the US Army landed on Guimaras and liberated the island. MacArthur's Wharf Prewar, 2nd Lt. Douglas MacArthur, at age 23 as a fresh graduate of West Point, was assigned to Iloilo as the head of a company of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They constructed roads and the Sto.
