Location Guimaras Island is located in Guimaras Province in the Western Visayas (Region VI) in the Visayas (Visayas Islands) in the central Philippines. Surrounded by the Guimaras Strait bordering Panay Island to the north and Negros Island to the east. To the south is Panubulon Island (Panobolon). Wartime History During 1942 occupied by the Japanese. During 1945, the U.S. Army landed liberated Guimaras. MacArthur's Wharf Prewar, 2nd Lt. Douglas MacArthur, at age 23 as a fresh graduate of West Point, was assigned to Iloilo as the head of a company from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. One of the projects they conducted was building the St. Rosario Wharf that was later named MacArthur's Wharf and is still in use today.
