Location
Occidental Mindoro Province is the western half of Mindoro Island and offshore islands including Lubang Island in the Mimaropa Region (Southwestern Tagalog Region, Region IV-B) of the Philippines. Borders Oriental Mindoro Province to the east.

Wartime History
On December 12, 1944 the U.S. Western Visayan Task Force under Brigadier-General Willam C. Dunckel departed Leyte and the next day, kamikaze aircraft damaged USS Nashville (CL-43), the flagship where over 130 were killed, including high ranking officers. The Nashville and another destroyer turned back to Leyte. The roughly 1,000 Japanese fled inland during the bombardment. On December 15, 1944 the U.S. Army landed unopposed in Magarin Bay at White Beach near San Jose. By December 23, 1944 two airfields were in operation and provided air support for the liberation of Luzon.

On December 24, 1944 two Japanese cruisers and eight destroyers left Camranh Bay off Indochina (Vietnam). Spotted and attacked by aircraft and PT Boats, that managed to sink one of the destroyers. The Japanese force then bombarded the beach area on December 26, 1944 but did little damage before they departed for Indochina. This was one of the last Japanese Navy surface attack against an American beachheads during the Pacific War.
