Location Lat 14° 24' 49N Long 121° 1' 35E Muntinlupa is located to the south of Manila in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Luzon in the Philippines. Also spelled Muntinglupa. Today known as Muntinlupa City or Lungsod ng Muntinlupa. Borders Taguig City to the north, Parañaque City to the northwest, Las Piñas City to the west, Bacoor and Cavite in Cavite Province to the southwest and the municipality of San Pedro in Laguna Province and Laguna de Bay to the east. Bilibid Prison (New Bilibid Prison) Construction of this prison began in 1936 and was completed January 22, 1941. From the air, the prison looks like a railway turntable with the main sentry tower in the middle and the prison cells in a spoke arrangement outward. During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, Bilibid Prison was used as a military Prisoner of War (POW) and civilian prison camp. After Corregidor surrendered, most of the prisoners were billeted at Bilibid before being transported elsewhere. After the war, Japanese prisoners were detained at Bilibid, including General Tomoyuki Yamashita while on trial for war crimes until executed by hanging at Los Baños on February 23, 1946. Today, it is still used as a prison, located near the Recto Station of the LRT-2. You can clearly see it from there. Today it is know as the National Bilibid Prison, where the Philippines most dangerous criminals are incarcerated. The Japanese Garden Cemetery The cemetery is a burial place of General Tomoyuki Yamashita, the Japanese general who became famous during the Japanese occupation of the country. Memorial Hill This is a small hill in the NBP reservation compound is the burial place of Eriberto Misa the Prisons Director during 1937-1949.
