Location Lat 10° 56' 34N Long 123° 25' 26E Sagay is located at an elevation of 32' above sea level in Negros Occidental Province in the northeast of Negros Island in the Western Visayas (Region VI) in the Visayas (Visayas Islands) of central the Philippines. Today known as Sagay City. Postwar, New Sagay (New Sagay City) was established further inland. Sagay Water Tank Construction began in 1940 and was completed in 1941 as a concrete water tower with a water tank inside for irrigation and local water supply. The upper portion has "Sagay Water Tank" painted in red block letters. Below are two rectangular windows with the strafing damage on one side. During late 1944 or early 1945, a worker accidentally stuck a pipe out one of the windows and it was mistaken as a gun by an American plane patrolling over the area and strafed. Bullet holes remain in the concrete to this day. Thanks to Tony Feredo for additional information. Sagay Airfield Built by the Japanese as a small emergency airfield.
