Location Lat 10° 54' 0" N Long 123° 21' 0" E Sagay Airfield was located at an elevation of roughly 32' above sea level near Hacienda Bitoon at Sagay in Negros Occidental Province on Negros Island in the Western Visayas Region (Region VI) of the Philippines. Construction During late December 1944, built by the Japanese Army in a sugar cane field as a single runway for dispersing aircraft from Fabrica Airfield, Carolina Airfield (Manapla) and Saravia AIrfield (Alicante). The runway was roughly 1,800' x 150'. Tony Feredo adds: "No exact dimensions of the field but based on the accounts of a former foreman of my grandfather who supervised to clear the sugar cane in the area, it was estimated to 1800' x 150'." Wartime History During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines used by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as an emergency airfield. At least one Type 1 Fighter / Ki-43-III Oscar landed at Sagay Airfield. Ki-43-III Oscar Abandoned at Sagay Airfield Today Disused since the Pacific War and replanted with sugar cane.
