Location
Lat 16° 3' 14N Long 120° 35' 13E  Santa Maria is a barangay of San Nicolas at an elevation of 147' / 44m above sea level in the 6th District (District VI) of Pangasinan Province in the Ilocos Region (Region I) of northern Luzon in the Philippines. Also abbreviated as Sta. Maria. To the east is the start of the Villa Verde Trail. To the west is San Nicolas. Today, divided between Santa Maria and Santa Maria West.

Wartime History
In early February 1945 liberated by the U.S. Army, 32nd Infantry Division (32nd ID), 127th Infantry Regiment, less the 3rd battalion and encounter a Japanese outpost covering the Cabalisiaan River. On February 5, 1945 2d Bn, 127th Inf patrolling from Santa Maria begins advancing on the Villa Verde Trail. On February 6, 1945 they suspends attacks while consolidating current positions about 1,500 yards north of Santa Maria

32nd Infantry Division Villa Verde Monument (1945)
Arrow shaped monument on a concrete pillar. This monument was built by the 32nd Infantry Division, Company A, 114th Engineers and dedicated on September 20, 1945 before they moved to Japan, the monument pays tribute to the 916 division men who were Killed In Action (KIA) during the liberation of Luzon. In 1987, the monument was in a state of neglect due to periodic flooding.

32nd Infantry Division Villa Verde Monument (New)
In 1987 with the help of the veterans of the 32nd Infantry Division and cooperation of the Santa Maria East the monument was restored between March 1989 to September 1989. The memorial's brass plaque reads: "Erected by the officers and men of the 32d Infantry Division United States Army in memory of their gallant comrades who were killed along the Villa Verde Trail January 30, 1945–May 28, 1945"
