Location Lat 9° 4' 60S Long 147° 41' 60E Myola is a flat dry lake bed at an elevation of 6,958' / 2,120m in the Owen Stanley Range in New Guinea. There are two dry lakes in this vicinity: "Big Myola" to the west and "Little Myola" to the east. Also known as "Myola Lake" or "Lake Myola". Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Central District in the Territory of Papua. Today located in Kairuku-Hiri District of Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). To the north is the border with Oro Province (Northern Province). Wartime History On October 8, 1942 occupied by the Japanese Army. When the Australian Army returned to the area, the Japanese had withdrew northward to Templeton's Crossing. The flat open area around Myola was used by C-47 Dakotas to air drop supplies to the ground forces.
