Location
Tarawai Island is located off the north coast of New Guinea. Also known as Tendanye Island, Tendanie Island or Tendanje Island. To the south is the north coast of New Guinea including But and Dagua. To the southeast is Walis Island (Valif). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Sepik District of the Territory of New Guinea.
Today located in Wewak Islands Rural LLG of East Sepik Province in Papua New Guinea and is the provincial capital.
