Location Lat 3° 22' 0S Long 143° 37' 0E Yavik is located on the southeast corner of Kairiru Island at the edge of a high cliffs. Also spelled Yauik or Yarin. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Wewak District of East Sepik Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During December 1942, occupied by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). At this location the Japanese emplaced two 140mm naval guns in concrete pits defending the eastern approach to Kairiru Strait. 140mm Naval Gun No.1 One of two guns emplaced overlooking the Kairiru Strait between Kairiru Island and Muschu Island. 140mm Naval Gun No.2 One of two guns emplaced overlooking the Kairiru Strait between Kairiru Island and Muschu Island.
