Location Poha and the Poha River are located on the north coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Borders Iron Bottom Sound to the north. To the east is Kokumbona. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate (BSIP). Today located in Guadalcanal Province in the Solomon Islands. Wartime History During 1942, occupied by the Japanese Army. On January 23, 1943, U.S. Army forces advance up the coast to Poha aided by aerial support from P-39 Airacobras and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) aircraft.
