Location
Makira-Ulawa Province is located in the southeastern Solomon Islands. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate (BSIP). The province's largest island is San Cristobal (Makira) with the provincal capital at Kirakira (Kira Kira). To the northwest is Guadalcanal.
Makira-Ulawa Province includes San Cristobal Island (Makira), Ulawa, Uki Ni Masi, Owaraha (Santa Ana), Owariki (Santa Catalina), Pio plus other islands. Makira-Ulawa people are mostly Melanesian and their traditional dances and rituals are still strongly kept, especially on Santa Ana (Owaraha), Santa Catalina (Owariki), Uki-ni-masi and Ulawa.
