| Location Lat 9° 17′ 53″ S Long 161° 14′ 32″ E Takataka Bay is located at the southeastern corner of Malaita Island. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate (BSIP). Today located in Malaita Province in the Solomon Islands. Wartime History On August 6, 1942 torpedo bombers from USS Saratoga (CV-3) overflew Maramasike Passage and Takataka Bay and found them unoccupied. Seaplane tender USS Mackinac arrived and began operating a nine plane detachment from VP-23 with PBY Catalinas on August 8, 1942.
