Wartime History
Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). On December 7, 1941 this torpedo was fired into Pearl Harbor one of the Japanese midget submarines that sucessfully penetrated the harbor, either HA-22 Type A Midget Submarine (Midget B) or possibly HA-16 Type A Midget Submarine (Midget E). The torpedo missed and embedded into the mud.
Wreckage
Postwar, this torpedo was discovered impacted into the mud and recovered by the U.S. Navy (USN). After being rendered safe and donated for display.
Display
This torpedo is displayed in a display case at the USS Arizona Memorial and Museum. The front half is partially destroyed, the tail section is largely intact.
